Examples of Segues
Emotional Link:
Scene 1: “She watched the candle burn out, feeling the weight of her decision settle over her.”
Segue: “By the time the dawn broke, the letter had already been sent.”
Time Jump:
Scene 1: “The ship vanished into the horizon, leaving him alone on the shore.”
Segue: “Months later, the tide brought the first piece of wreckage.”
Thematic Shift:
Scene 1: “The garden was alive with laughter and sunlight.”
Segue: “But even gardens have shadows, and his would come to grow.”
As we go along, we will see segues are usually very tight, lasting from 1 sentence to a paragraph or a form of dialog.
