Cooking Classes
This autumn, we’re opening the kitchen for a new series of monthly cooking classes, held at ToGather in Proctorsville on Depot Street, just across from the village green. The first class will be on October 25, where we’ll roll up our sleeves, breathe in the fragrance of fresh flour and butter, and learn how the quality of ingredients shapes not only flavor but also nourishment. Together we’ll bake golden scones—crisp at the edges, tender at the center, and warm from the oven. On November 8, we’ll dive into the art of making a truly crisp and flaky butter pie dough, the kind that shatters lightly under a fork and fills the kitchen with the unmistakable aroma of home. These classes, taught by Maren and Megan, will take place once a month, blending hands-on learning with the simple joy of good food shared in good company.

A Place of Enchantment and Creativity
“A Timeless Treasure Awaits at The Old Owl Inn”
High upon a mist-cloaked hilltop, a marvel of enchantment and mystery welcomes visitors to step into its storied embrace. The Old Owl Inn, a castle seemingly plucked from the pages of a beloved tale, stands as a testament to craftsmanship and imagination.
Built from stone quarried at the nearby Old Gnome and Quarry and finished with wood reclaimed from a barn dating back to the 1800s, the castle exudes a charm both rugged and refined. Its weathered stones and timber beams seem to hum with the memories of bygone eras, offering guests a sense of stepping not merely into another place but another time.
The grounds are equally spellbinding. Overhead, great ravens and majestic bald eagles carve through the skies, their wings casting fleeting shadows across the castle’s spires. Below, the wildlife thrives—bears and deer roam freely, porcupines scuttle through the underbrush, and even the occasional giant rabbit hops across the landscape, as though straight from a fantastical fable.

As the sun sets, the magic only deepens. The inn’s namesake, a wise old owl, perches solemnly beneath the glow of the moon, its haunting call echoing through the crisp night air. Visitors have reported a peculiar yet comforting feeling, as if the owl itself watches over all who tread this hallowed ground. The Old Owl Inn is not merely a place to visit—it is an experience of wonder, a retreat into a realm where nature and the extraordinary coexist. For those seeking a reprieve from the humdrum of daily life, there is no better haven than this castle on the hill, where every stone tells a story and every evening is wrapped in the mystique of the owl’s song.
“Step into the pages of your own adventure—visit the Old Owl Inn, where timeless beauty meets living legend.”
