The Lamp, by Bob Parks

The lamp in my living room just turned on and brings light - so I can see what I couldn't see before. It manifests something material, not as an idea but as something actual. So up to now, what was in my head is what can be seen - so it was a thinking eye. So what the artists saw at the Riviera when the light hit them as colour manifested as the explosion into Modern Art - that which is seen - not as imagination but as real as the lamp in front of me. What is it that this brings - because what I see has already been there before. What is the space between the two and what is this about...Does the lamp know what it is doing? Will it talk about it in lamp language. Why not - it is here, and so am I, so it says - yes, mine is the unseeing eye, and no one has given me credit for my accomplishment. The electric light for my forbears enabled humanity to read at night. We fostered a revelation in thinking of as passive - something people take for granted as if it is theirs to own but it isn't - they can't materialize things from darkness. If I wasn't in their ownership they would be stuck in the dark for a lot more of their lives. What can I tell of what I can bring - is it magic. No it's molecular. Something everything has - we are all atoms. We have a function as patterned atoms and three-dimensional shapes - but we also have electricity running through, and we have to be able to release this energy when some force outside of ourselves activates the capacity by pressing a switch.   I don't ask for this and people don't realise it's just not something they can take for granted as they are also made up of electricity flowing through their veins. They only have one way of seeing this, as it empowers them to move but stabilizes me to emit where they just produce. That production is material but no from a release. This letting out of my power at the same time as being plugged in...

Perfect. This warms my heart. It resonates. In my world, I often say “if you have electricity, Thank a coal miner.” Thank You, Bob and Maren.
